Flight from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltras airport where our Naturalist guide would transfer you to Puerto Ayora. On the way we will drive through different vegetation zones of the Island until we arrive to the inhabitad side of Santa Cruz. We will drop your luggage at your hotel to take a city tour and have lunch in town. After lunch we will walk towards the Charles Darwin station, which works to preserve the galapagos ecosystem through the conservation efforts of scientists, researchers and volunteers, at this research station we will see a variaty of Giant tortoises in captivity, different sizes and ages. This visit is combined with a stop to a museum where we will learn about the different projects that they are running at the moment and a visit to a small collection of invertebrades and vertebrades of the Galapagos Islands.
In the morning after breakfast our transportation will pick you up from your hotel to take you for a 50 minute car ride to a Giant Tortoise Reserve “El chato” where you are going to have the opportunity to see the simbolic animal of the Galapagos Islands roaming in the wild and a walk through of a natural formation of the islands “Lava tunnels”. After visiting this reserve we will go back to our hotel to pick up your luggage and stop to have lunch in town. At 2:30 hopp on a public speedboat to Isabela Island (aproximatly 2-2.5 hours of navegation). after we arrive to the island there will be a transportation that is going to take us to our hotel.
In the morning after having breakfast our guide will take to Tintoreras islet. Upon arrival you will see that a lava crevice with a small lagoon of turquoise water inside is clearly evident. When the water is calm, whitetip sharks, also known as "tintoreras", usually come here to rest. They are the ones that give name to this rocky islet. On the vertical walls of the crevice and in the lagoon you will also see baby marine iguanas warming their bodies in the sun. Ready to snorkel in this little paradise? Upon arrival at the islet you will also see sea lions, blue-footed boobies, crabs, sea turtles, pelicans and the peculiar Galapagos penguins. An exalted display of wildlife that will take your breath away. Following the guide, you will reach a small cove inside the islet where you will snorkel. You will dive among a great variety of fish, starfish, sea urchins, manta rays, blue sharks and sea lions. After a unique snorkeling experience in the Galapagos Islands, you will get back on the boat and head to Puerto Villamil.
In the afternoon we will visit El Muro de las Lágrimas, known in english as the Wall of Tears, is one of the most important historic sites in the Galapagos Islands. There is a rich, and interesting human history to the Galapagos Islands that often gets overshadowed by the amazing wildlife, so we highly encourage you to visit some of the more historic sites around the islands, you can access to this site by a sandy path, which turns to rough gravel, snaking along close to the shoreline, just outside of Puerto Villamil. There are many lookouts, beaches, mangroves and other attractions along the way. Depending on the time of year you visit, there may be lush green vegetation along the way, and around the wall, or it may be a more brown, dry experience as in most of the photos in this post.
Start your last day on Isla Isabela by heading towards the Sierra Negra Volcano (approximately 45 minutes by bus), one of the most active volcanoes in the Galapagos and the second-largest crater in the world. Weather permitting, take a challenging hike of around 17 kilometres up the rocky mountain, which takes 5—6 hours. After the hike, make your way back to town for some free time to curl up with a book or venture down to the water for a relaxing swim before dinner.
Today you will visit los Tuneles. The most popular snrorkelling location in Isabela. Your are likely to see a lot of Galapagos marine life such as sea turtles, white tip reef sharks, golden and eagles rays, possibly some sea horses and much more. A packed lunch is included during the tour that will be eaten on board. This morning your guide will take to the tour office to have everything ready for this adventure. You will depart from Puerto Villamil to los Tunnels national park site by boat, after a 1 hour on board you will make a quick stop by Roca Union to see some wildlife as sea birds and sealions, then you will arrive to Cabo Rosa site, where you will walk among blue footed boobies. Your day will continue snorkelling at el Finado and los Tuneles. You will swim among sea lions, seahorses, rays, sea turtles, reef sharks, and even penguins in the cold season. This guided tour lasts about 5 hours round trip.
After dropping your luggage at the hotel you will have some time to change and get ready to visit one of the most beautifull beaches of the entire Archipelago. Our Naturalist guide will take you for a interesting walk (1 hour-3.5Km) to Tortuga Bay beach. On the way you will have the opportunity to see the famous cactus trees (endemic cactus) until you arrive to the first beach known as playa brava because of the strong currents, our goal is to get to playa mansa (calm beach), wich it will take an extra 15 minutes walk, along this way we will have the chance to spot unique wildlife of the Galapagos islands as Marine Iguanas, Pelicans, shore birds and the nesting zones of sea turtles. When we arrive to playa mansa we will take a short walk to spot baby sharks from shore and time to go in for a splash. Optional activities: Snorkelling or Kayaking. After visiting this beautiful beach we will go back to Pto ayora.
Early in the morning after breakfast we will take our transportation towards the airport, on the way we will stop by (30 min) the twins craters wich is an evidence of how these Islands were form, you will have the time to spot different type of land birds as Darwin finches, yellow warblers, large billed flycatchers and owls (depending on the season).
